On Saturday, 11th June at Clements Tump/Little Drybrook
A very successful walk through gardens, reclaimed Forest and quarries at Little Drybrook/ Clements Tump on Saturday June 11th. Many thanks to Di Standing for arranging this afternoon walk.
We visited the garden of two Beekeepers where they have a managed flower and vegetable garden. Next we visited a field among the trees lower down the road. Here also bees are kept and the owner is reclaiming the field and introducing wildflowers etc.
Down the road past infilled quarry workings being managed to control bracken to a cottage which is in a very small quarry. This garden has been neglected for some years and the owners wish to reclaim it but not to exclude wild flowers.
Finally walking the last stretch past Cackets up to Ellwood Lodge with its wild flower meadows and mix of flower and vegetable garden.

Meadows in May – wildflower identification
On Friday May 27th we held a wildflower identification event at The Meeting House , New Road, Flaxley, GL14 1JS.

We tried out a new scheme for learning to identify wildflowers as they actually were in late May, since some were not in full flowering mode.

12 members came to The Meeting House and we used pictures of 16 flowers/ plants and helped you find them in the meadow. Later on there were refreshments and cake!

Friday April 8th at The West Dean Centre Bream
Our evening meeting was most enjoyable with talks by two members – David Mullin from Lea and Nigel Costley from Flaxley/ Pope’s Hill. We also had updates from Rosie Kelsall on the HLF Lottery bid and from Peter Tonks on a meeting with the Gloucestershire Churches Environmental Justice Network about wildflowers in Churchyards. If you know of any churchyards/ village hall grounds/ sports grounds etc in the Dean that would like a survey and management advice please get in touch.
